Living healthier means we will live longer, so it’s a goal we should all aspire to achieve. However, we are constantly inundated with information about how we can be more healthy in often complicated and time consuming ways. You don’t have to jump on the latest fad diet or some new fitness trend to keep yourself in the best shape possible. Here are 5 simple ways you can use to start living a healthier lifestyle.

Eat Well

Eating well isn’t as difficult as it’s made out to be and it gives you more license to be creative with what you eat. The more fun you have doing something the more likely you are to persist. If you’re not eating enough fruit and vegetables, consider planting your own. That way you are giving yourself the opportunity to literally enjoy the fruits of your labor! Start each day with a healthy breakfast and don’t skip meals. You will feel energized and ready to face the day, while your body and mind will reap the benefits.


We’re not saying you have to start running marathons, just be more active. Physical activity in moderation will bring you a whole range of benefits from looking better to improving your mental health. If you’re completely inactive, you should take it slowly or you risk injury. You could go for a walk each morning or evening and slowly build up your stamina and fitness levels until you’re able to run. Exercise is one of the most beneficial and easily accessible activities you can do to keep yourself fit and healthy.

Have a Trusted Doctor

Having a doctor you can trust will ensure you have the support you need to live healthy. How many times have you avoided going to see a doctor because you don’t really like them? If you are involved in a lot of physical activity, you could suffer from sports related injuries such as back pain so it’s important you have a good orthopaedic surgeon who can advise and help you live a pain free lifestyle. Likewise, your general practitioner should be someone you can trust. If you trust someone, you will listen to them and listening to your doctor will keep you living a longer and healthier life.

Don’t Neglect Your Mental Health

Always remember to take time for yourself and consider your own mental well-being. Often poor mental health will manifest itself physically and you will feel run down as well as depressed. Find someone to talk to about any problems you may have, or just find a space where you can take yourself away from everyday life. If you ignore your mental health, it is very likely to spiral and you will find yourself stuck in a situation you will find hard to get out of.

Sleep Well

It’s perhaps easier said than done to get a good night’s sleep. If you work long hours, the time you spend at home is yours and you will try and make the most of it, even if it leaves you with less sleep. However, in the long-term you will be constantly tired and your physical appearance will show that you are lacking in good sleep. Set yourself a time to go to bed, switch off all of your electronics and sleep!

If you are living healthy, you are prolonging your life which gives you more time to enjoy all the things you love. Your friends and family will appreciate and be influenced by your lifestyle choices meaning you are a positive influence on the lives of others adding to your own self worth. Stop thinking about living healthier and do it, it is simple and worth it!
